Aquatic Species
The golf courses are home to many different species of wildlife, including rare and protected aquatic species that live in the ponds here.
Species include:
Chinese Water Snake (Myrrophis chinensis), a mildly venomous reptile whose numbers are declining rapidly in Hong Kong.
Somanniathelpusa zanklon, a rare freshwater crab that is globally endangered. The Club is home to the largest population of this species anywhere!
Reeves’ Turtle (Mauremys reevesii) is a species that is highly threatened by illegal hunting to supply the food, traditional medicine and pet trades, as well as habitat destruction affecting inland waters. Considered globally endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the Reeves’ Turtle is legally protected in Hong Kong.
